How to Maintain All Types of Siding

Siding is another form of defense your home has from the elements and also the first thing your neighbors notice when they pass by your house. It can also increase your property’s value, depending on what material the siding is made of. With that in mind, it’s important that you maintain your siding and each type of siding has its own upkeep requirements.

In this post, general contractor 3JM Exteriors, Inc. discusses what you need to know about siding and how you can maintain its different types.

Vinyl Siding

Vinyl siding is the sturdiest kind you can apply to your home and it’s designed to be left alone unless it comes loose or becomes bent and curved. To maintain this type of siding, it’s best to have it power-washed for a thorough cleansing. Alternatively, you may also scrub it with a soft bristle scrub brush and trisodium phosphate.

Wood Siding

Depending on how harsh the weather has been recently, wood siding needs to be maintained by treatment every 4 to 6 years via careful pressure washing. Avoid using bleach when conducting pressure washing, however, as it can alter the wood’s appearance.

Stucco Siding

Stucco is the type of siding that can collect dust easily so to maintain it, scrubbing with mild detergent and water solution is the best step. You can also conduct a power washing so long as you’re careful, as the water can puncture the stucco. Should that happen, you will need to contact and hire a siding repair company to patch things up for you.

Metal Siding

Metal is a long lasting type of siding but that doesn’t mean it won’t rust. To maintain it, simply scrape the rust and coat it with sealant.
